Leading members of the House of Lords have warned that the UK’s crisis in long term care will never be solved until social care funding is guaranteed to be sufficient for many years ahead. Norman Warner, a former Labour health minister (2003-07), said that the failure to fund social care adequately over a long period had left the NHS facing its “biggest external threat.” He said that a 10% cut in social care funding in real terms since 2010 had put the NHS and social care in a “very bad place financially” for the future.
