Faecal microbiota transplantation delivered orally in a capsule prevents recurrent Clostridium difficile infection in at-risk adults as effectively as transplantation of donor stool material by colonoscopy, a randomised trial has found.1 Infection with C difficile is the leading cause of healthcare associated infectious diarrhoea and recurrent infection is common.
