The UK surgeon and former health minister Ara Darzi is to lead a new independent review into the future of the NHS and social care. The review will examine solutions for protecting and strengthening services in the face of current pressures as the NHS approaches its 70th year. It follows a decade which has seen an unprecedented slowdown in NHS funding and big cuts to social care budgets, which have combined to cause treatment rationing, longer waiting times, and deteriorating financial performance.
