Adults with meningitis admitted to hospitals in England experience substantial delays in diagnostic testing and receive inappropriate treatment, both of which are associated with longer hospital stays, an observational study has reported.1 The prospective observational cohort study enrolled 1126 patients aged over 16 admitted with clinically suspected meningitis to 42 hospitals around England from September 2011 to September 2014.
