Use of a protocol that was based on testing for infection and treatment with antibiotics and fluids within one hour of recognising possible sepsis in children was associated with a significant reduction in the risk of death, a cohort study in New York state has shown.1 “No child should die from a treatable infection,” said study author Christopher Seymour, from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
