Irish GPs and obstetricians have expressed doubt that the country’s first abortions will go ahead as planned from 1 January. Following a referendum decision to repeal the eighth amendment to the constitution earlier this year,1 the government has put legislation through both houses of parliament to enable abortions to be freely available to women up to 12 weeks of gestation.
