We read with great interest the recent work by Axelrad et al 1 dealing with small bowel cancer-related death rate in patients with inflammatory bowel disease. The authors concluded that small bowel cancer mortality is higher in Crohn’s disease (CrD) patients than in sporadic cases. However, the latter data are not in keeping with all studies published so far showing a similar death rate between patients with CrD-associated small bowel adenocarcinoma (CrD-SBA) and those with sporadic SBA (table 1).
