THE European Commission has adopted a new action plan to tackle antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The plan, which was adopted on June 29, takes a One Health approach to addressing AMR in animals and people, and aims to preserve the possibility of effective treatments of infections. It replaces the EU’s first action plan on AMR, which ran from 2011 until 2016. The plan is built around three main ‘pillars’ or objectives:
