Abstract: Daily urinary nitrogen excretion (UN, g d-1) was quantified in gestating gilts during 5 d nitrogen (N) balance periods. Abbreviated collection days (<22 h) can be used in N balance calculations when extrapolated to reflect a complete 24 h collection. Variation in daily UN did not affect overall N retention calculations.
