Employing Jacobi elliptic functions and the so-called alternative ( $$ G^{\prime}/G $$ )-expansion method including the generalized Riccati equation, Tala-Tebue et al. (Eur Phys J Plus 129:136, 2014) derived exact solutions for a discrete nonlinear electrical transmission line in (2 + 1)-dimensions. We show that the obtained solutions of the model given in Tala-Tebue et al. (2014) are all incorrect due to the incorrect reduced ODE Eq. (14) in that paper.
