We thank Drs Zakeri and Redfield for their interest and thoughtful comments on our work regarding the influence of left atrial (LA) function on exercise capacity and left ventricular (LV) function in patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF).1 In a recent study, their group has conducted a profound analysis of LA function in an animal model of early hypertensive HFpEF using cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and pressure–volume–loop measurements.
