Ficus subg. Pharmacosycea (Miq.) Miq. sect. Pharmacosycea Griseb. is a Neotropical group containing mainly terrestrial trees, monoecious, having leaves with a pair of glands in the axil of the secondary basal vein, and two stamens. This group was first described by Miquel (1848) and since then about 120 names were published for its subsections, series, species and varieties. According to Pederneiras et al. (2017), the group contains 35 recognized species. The typification of these names is almost complete, and only in some cases it is still necessary to select a type. For the selection of types, protologues have been compared with original material and the most complete and informative specimens, mainly with leaves, syconia, branches, and stipules (DeWolf 1965, Carauta 1989, Ibarra-Manriquez & Wendt 1992, Carvajal & Shabes 2000, Berg 2006) were selected (Art. 9.3 of the ICN, McNeill et al. 2012).
