I had the fascinating experience recently of teaching Introductory Occupational Therapy Theory and Introductory Disability Studies in the same term. I could not help but reflect on the parallels between them, and particularly between the central concepts of occupational performance problems and disabilities. In this guest editorial, I propose to explore the similarities and differences between occupational performance problems and disabilities, and to reflect on the lessons that occupational therapists can offer to the field of disability studies, and conversely that disability studies can offer to occupational therapy. Before going any further, let us begin with definitions:
