Objectives: To assess whether the use of an alternative interview approach affected pharmacy residency candidates’ perception of our residency program. Methods: This was a single-center study utilizing 3 survey question responses from pharmacy residency candidates after they had experienced an escape room in our interview process. The primary endpoint was whether or not the candidates’ perception of our institution changed after experiencing our alternative interview process with the utilization of an escape room. This study took place from January 2017 to February 2018. A total of 20 applicants were granted interviews, and a total of 20 surveys were sent to the pharmacy candidates. Results: Of the total 20 surveys sent to candidates, we had 11 responses (55%). A total of 10 applicants (50%) had their perception of our institution changed after experiencing the escape room. The escape room was a positive factor in how applicants ranked our institution for 8 of the 11 responses. After experiencing the escape room, 9 of the 11 applicants responded that they were more likely to rank our small market institution. Conclusion: The escape room impacted pharmacy residency candidates’ perception of our institution during their interview process.
