The word koinonia is rich with meaning. It describes the relationship within the early Christian Church. It is a relationship that is based on trust, friendship and confidence. The relationship included the breaking of bread and teaching by the apostles. Generally, koinonia includes fellowship, association, community, communion and interdependence.
