Unfortunately, the above comment from Sir William Osler still harkens true. However, over the past 25 years of practicing cardiovascular medicine, I was fortunate to see many impressive medical breakthroughs and honored to have helped with some. Medical research, like any endeavor, is not perfect and mistakes can happen that slow progress, or, rarely, it is serendipity that reveals a new unexpected finding.
