Pancreas is in focus and a hot topic. This was highlighted in the Sigrid Jusélius Symposium held in May 2019 by the Editors of this SJS (Scandinavian Journal of Surgery) Special Issue along with the Finnish Pancreatic Club. The Symposium was titled “Pancreas in focus: Common pancreatic diseases with a heavy burden on patients and health care.” This SJS Special Issue is composed of reviews and other articles by the distinguished speakers of the Symposium and their coworkers. The selected topics in this special issue highlight current important issues in pancreatology, including modern surgical treatment strategies for pancreatic cancer, management of pancreatic neuroendocrine and cystic neoplasms, and conservative and invasive treatment methods for acute and chronic pancreatitis. From these reviews, the value of and the need for multicenter trials and registers is evident. With international collaboration, networking, and friendship, there is hope. This was also apparent in the Sigrid Jusélius Symposium. We wish to thank all the speakers and participants of the symposium, and especially the authors involved in this SJS Special Pancreas Issue.
