Ladies and gentlemen, members, friends, and honored guests. I would like to thank you for the distinct honor and privilege it has been to serve as President of the Eastern Cardiothoracic Surgery Society for the last 2 years. Who would have thought that when we had our last in-person meeting 2 years ago that we would in a few short months be facing a global pandemic that would fracture our world? I am pleased to report that in spite of signi fi cant challenges, the society remains robust, fi nancially stable, and is poised for continued growth and success. It is not without the signi fi cant contributions to my life from many that I stand before you today. I would like to express my appreciation and gratitude to family, friends, and mentors who have had a signi fi cant impact on me and on my personal growth.
