Background: Exacerbation of asthma is an episode, which caracterized by a change from the patient`s usual status and change in treatment. Oral CSs are reserved to treat acute exacerbations of asthma: prednisolone in 20-30 mg for 5-7 days. Aimd and Objectives: The objective of this study was to assess how many incidents of exacerbation of asthma have been recorded among the patients who have been received oral steroids during last 6 months in Armenia. Material and Methods: This retrospective descriptive analytical study was performed among 600 patients ( 317 females and 283 males) aged 40 and higher ( from 40 to 87 years old) with random cluster sampling method. We have retrospectively studied history of disease among this patients in St GLMC, one of the major Armenian clinics. All of them applied to clinic with asthma exacerbations. They were assigned oral steroid treatment, as well as baseline treatment depending on the phenotype of asthma and the degree of severity. Besides, the presence of coexisting diseases, which can also aggravate the asthma process and cause exacerbation, has been taken into account. All patients received prednisolone in 20-30 mg for 5-7 days . Results and Conclusions: It was found that 474 patients have had 1 incidence of exacerbation during 6 months, 106 have had 2 and 20 patients have had 3 incidences of exacerbation (All those patients who have had 2 or 3 incidences of exacerbation had more than 2 coexisting diseases such as IHD, stage 3 of AH, etc). Only 89 from 600 patients have had more than 350 eosinophils in blood considering OSs`use. So OSs in high doses and for short courses can decrease incidences of exacerbation of severe asthma and also decrease the EOS in blood.
