Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) can be comorbid with epilepsy.1 However, there has been concern that methylphenidate and other stimulants used to treat ADHD may need to be avoided in those with epilepsy. This arises from the Food and Drug Administration-approved methylphenidate package insert describing a risk of provoking seizures, although a literature review2 only yields support from an animal study,3 case reports, and a study of seizures after methylphenidate overdose.
