Of all issues affecting people with epilepsy, driving is among the most important. In fact, the number one rationale as to why a patient with epilepsy will undergo epilepsy surgery is the promise that he or she can potentially drive at some point in the future.1 The rationale is simple: except for certain densely populated large cities (such as New York City or Chicago), mass transportation options do not adequately satisfy the needs of most people. Thus, driving becomes essential for work, school, and socialization in these locations. Driving becomes synonymous with independence and overall quality of life.
