Endovascular therapy (EVT) can dramatically improve outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke. However, even with careful patient selection and successful recanalization, more than half of patients do not achieve a good outcome with a modified Rankin score (mRS) ≤ 2.1 Improved understanding of the factors that contribute to poor outcome in EVT-treated patients could lead to novel therapies to reduce brain injury when stroke occurs and further help patients with stroke.
