We thank Dr. Coebergh for the comment and interest in our study.1 We agree the role of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) needs to be considered in patients with seizures predominantly from sleep and have observed this in a number of patients in our first-seizure cohort, typically older men. We have also noted anecdotally that a number of patients with sleep-only epilepsy continued to have seizures, despite treatment with antiseizure medication, until the OSA is appropriately managed. However, in our first seizure cohort, although OSA was not directly assessed, there was no evidence that age, sex, or BMI at the time of the first seizure had any influence on seizure recurrence. Nonetheless, we agree future studies are warranted to assess the effect of OSA on seizure recurrence in more detail.
