Heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) has gained popularity in the treatment of peritoneal carcinomatosis from appendiceal, ovarian, and colorectal cancers. Despite the increased morbidity and mortality associated with such a procedure, no tools are available to capture the total burden of complications experienced, and no wellvalidated tools exist to report this. Given the use of chemotherapy as part of the procedure, the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE) often has been used to describe complications, but this tool is not easily used by surgeons. Other tools directed to be used for surgical patients, such as the Clavien-Dindo classification, consider only the most severe complication and fail to capture the patient’s entire surgical experience.
