Peritoneal metastases (PMs) from T4 colon cancers have been previously linked with direct spread to the serosa and surrounding peritoneum. Peritoneal metastases occur in 20–40 % of patients and have previously also been associated with inadequate surgical resection. However, PM remains common despite radical surgery with complete lymphadenectomy. Detailed comparison of risk factors for peritoneal versus other sites of metastases has been limited.
