A fluorine-free and transparent superhydrophobic coating was fabricated via a simple method. The coated glass exhibited excellent superhydrophobicity with water contact angle (WCA) about 156° and sliding angle (SA) about 3°. In addition, the as-prepared superhydrophobic glass also showed great transparency and self-cleaning properties. The superhydrophobic polydopamine@SiO2 (PDA@SiO2) coating can be also applied on other substrate surfaces through a spray-coating approach. Moreover, a sponge coated by the superhydrophobic coating can be used to absorb oil from water.
