In this paper, we have theoretically and analytically examined the impact of the quantum size effect on mechanical and thermodynamic properties of the single crystalline quantum dot. Spectra of allowed phonon energies, as well as thermodynamic characteristics, are analyzed using the method of two-time dependent Green’s functions. The internal energy of the system as well as the thermal capacitance of the quantum dot in a lowtemperature region are found. The behaviour of quantum dot’s specific heat with temperature is compared to that of corresponding bulk structures, as well as those of thin films, superlattices, and quantum wires. It has been shown that at extremely low temperatures thermal capacitance of the quantum dot is significantly lower than the thermal capacitance listed for above structures. Consequences of this fact are discussed in detail and its influence on kinetic and thermodynamic properties of materials are estimated.
