In a recent article in this journal, Alison Coutts outlined how nurses can respond when faced with the need to intervene but lacking any formal research evidence to guide practice (Coutts, 2018). The article highlights the lack of evidence available in some areas of nursing, and it acts as a prompt to consider how and why gastrointestinal (GI), liver and stoma care nurses can get involved in research.
