necessary for this kind of research and even provides a brief treatment of exclamatives. As evidenced by the interest shown by the contributors to this volume, pursuing these methods could further increase our understanding of the topic. In summary, Advances in the Analysis of Spanish Exclamatives provides detailed formal analysis of the syntax-semantic interface of exclamative structures. The chapters that contrast exclamatives with other, superficially similar, structures are particularly insightful, and Bosque’s introduction provides a solid grounding in the topic. Taken as a whole, the volume greatly adds to our understanding of these structures. Nevertheless, the inclusion of a flawed empirical study and repeated but inchoate treatments of prosody give the impression that the volume aims to be more than the careful theoretical work it is. Consequently, it opens itself to criticism by including elements from other subdisciplines that are either poorly executed or underdeveloped. However, these shortcomings can be viewed by the research community as an indication of areas in the field that are still understudied, and that will hopefully be the subject of research in the years to come.
