The Journal of Southern History, Volume LXXXVIII, No. 4, November 2022 writing on religion and civil rights politics in the 1960s and 1970s. The book is well written, meticulously researched, and organized in a clear and direct manner. While mainline Protestantism may be on the decline, its history is central to understanding the complex web of faith and politics during the civil rights era. This is really church history at its best.
