Introductory Statement: Approximately 1 in 10 children is classified as having current asthma. Approximately 50% have poorly controlled disease, resulting in 61% visiting an emergency department or urgent care clinic. 5% of all pediatric admissions are asthma-related. Poor control of asthma is partly the result of a gap that exists between the care recommended and actual care provided. In our community, there is a lack of education and support organizations for asthma patients, despite the high incidence. Implementation of a family-centered, multidisciplinary asthma education program in our institution is anticipated to improve the quality of care delivered to …
