Purpose: Literature supports that bereavement follow-up phone calls made by clinicians from a child’s care team to the family within the first 3 weeks after a child’s death result in an increase in feelings of support and a decrease in feelings of abandonment. While the pediatric palliative care (PPC) team has an established bereavement follow-up program through mailings and a yearly parent bereavement group, in the retrospective analysis of one month the rate was only 38% for completed follow-up calls.
