Background: Formal neonatal intubation training for healthcare providers occurs on manikins and through simulations. Literature suggests that current simulators lack the physical and functional fidelity and that successful simulations do not translate into clinical competency. Instructors and manufacturers need a better understanding of simulation training deficits to advance simulator and session design. Objective: To determine from instructors and trainees the differences between neonatal intubation simulation practice sessions and clinical encounters to inform the development of simulators/manikins and help design better sessions for trainees.
