Purpose, Lateral patellar instability (LPI) in children and adolescents frequently occurs in the setting of genu valgum, which is a known risk factor for recurrent instability episodes. Hemiepiphysiodesis, or more accurately ‘guided growth’ techniques, with use of physeal tethering plate/screw constructs, can be used to correct genu valgum and, in turn, contribute to patellar stabilization, but literature related to this concept is sparse.
