Background: Food insecurity is defined as limited or uncertain access to nutritious food. The effects of food insecurity are detrimental for all, but especially for children given its vast and long-term consequences. Up to 16 million (21%) of US children are affected, and California is ranked 19th in the nation with a child food insecurity rate of 12.5%.
