Background: The ED plays an important role in the management of anaphylaxis, a severe, potentially life-threatening reaction for which epinephrine is first line therapy. Recommended durations of observation following anaphylaxis have been widely variable, ranging anywhere from 3-4 hours to at least 24 hours. Prolonged observation periods can lead to more hospitalizations, given the nature of ED flow.
