Background: Advances in technology and policy changes, have led to nationwide efforts to increase consumer access and patient and family engagement with their health care system, through the use of electronic health information, as a way to advance person-centered health. Providing patients with the ability to participate in their health care electronically can lead to better communication with providers, care, and outcomes as well as lower costs.
