Background: The Gift is a designation and quality improvement program for Louisiana birthing facilities designed to provide resources and framework to improve breastfeeding outcomes through the incremental adoption of the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding. Using the theories of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), Gift supports progress toward the pursuit of Baby-Friendly designation. Forty-nine of fifty-two facilities are engaged, with sixteen facilities now Baby-Friendly accredited. The Gift conducts curated surveys of different stakeholders, which are used to determine accreditation and quality improvement progress.
