Background: Children and adolescents in foster care are at increased risk for poor health outcomes (Kools & Kennedy, 2003; Kools, Paul, Jones, Monasterio, & Norbeck, 2013). In the Fostering Health guidelines, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends more frequent primary care follow-up so providers can better identify emerging needs, monitor overall health status, and serve as stable advocates for their vulnerable patients (Szilagyi et al., 2015).
