An error occurred in the article by Boppana et al, titled “Insight Into Long-term Neurodevelopmental Outcomes in Asymptomatic Congenital CMV Infection” published in the November 2017 issue of Pediatrics (2017;140[5]:e20172526; doi:10.1542/ peds.2017-2526). On page 2, column 1, the first full paragraph reads: “Although full-scale intelligence and receptive vocabulary scores were lower in children with SNHL when compared with controls, these differences were not statistically significant. However, only 11 children with asymptomatic infection who developed SNHL before 2 years of age were included in the study. Therefore, it is possible that the differences could have reached a statistically significant level if more children with SNHL were included in the study.” This should have read: “Full-scale intelligence and receptive vocabulary scores were significantly lower in children with SNHL; however, it is encouraging to see similar academic achievement scores in reading and math in all 3 groups of children. Only 11 children with asymptomatic infection who developed SNHL before 2 years of age were included in the study; therefore, these findings need be confirmed in prospective studies that include larger numbers of children with asymptomatic cCMV.”
