ResumoPara discutir a importância de incorpo-rar os indios na Historia do Brasil como protagonistas, apresento uma reflexao sobre algumas mudancas historiografi-cas resultantes dessa incorporacao, apontando a relevância academica, so-cial e politica dessa pratica. A inclusao dos indios em nossa historia na condi-cao de sujeitos tem propiciado novas interpretacoes sobre varios temas. Este artigo aborda alguns deles, priorizando minha pesquisa sobre os indios no Rio de janeiro, em perspectiva comparativa com outras regioes do Brasil. Lembran-do que a historia indigena articula-se com as historias colonial e nacional, o texto enfatiza a importância de estreitar dialogos entre os especialistas para compreensoes mais complexas dos pro-cessos historicos. do ponto de vista po-litico e social, as novas interpretacoes historicas sobre os indios cumprem o papel essencial de desconstruir ideias preconceituosas e discriminatorias.Palavras-chave: protagonismo indigena; historiografia; historia indigena.AbstractTo discuss the importance of incorporat-ing the Indians in the History of Brazil as protagonists, I present a reflection on some historiographical changes resulting from such incorporation, pointing out the academic, social and political rele-vance of this practice. The inclusion of the Indigenous agency in our history has provided new interpretations on various themes. This article addresses some of them, focusing primarily on my research on the Indians in Rio de janeiro, in a comparative perspective with other re-gions of Brazil. Considering that the In-dian history is articulated with colonial and national histories, the text empha-sizes the importance of increasing dia-logues among specialists for more com-plex understandings of historical processes. From the political and social point of view, these new historical inter-pretations have an essential role of de-constructing prejudiced and discrimina-tory ideas against the Indians.Keywords: indigenous protagonism; historiography; indigenous History.
