Background Capillary malformation-arteriovenous malformation of the auricular and periauricular region, and its treatment are rarely reported. This study aims to describe the effectiveness and safety of endovascular embolization for capillary malformation-arteriovenous malformation of the auricular and periauricular region in pediatric patients. Methods A total of nine pediatric patients with auricular and periauricular capillary malformation-arteriovenous malformation treated by endovascular embolization from August 2020 to July 2024 were enrolled in this study. Transcatheter angiography was performed under digital subtraction angiography fluoroscopy. Then, endovascular embolization was performed under digital subtraction angiography monitoring. A second arteriography was performed to confirm the effectiveness of embolization. If not satisfactory, additional embolization was performed until the blood flow in the target vessel slowed significantly. Patients were followed up for changes in symptoms. Results A total of 22 endovascular embolization sessions were performed in nine children, with an average of 2.4±0.8 sessions per case. After a median follow-up of 8.0 months, all nine cases were effectively treated, while only one patient had obvious symptom rebound one week after operation because the degree of embolization in the first treatment was relatively mild. No obvious complications were observed in any of the patients. Conclusions Endovascular embolization for capillary malformation-arteriovenous malformation of the auricular and periauricular regions in pediatric patients is safe and effective.
