The article responds to an issue article on the response of the Roman Catholic Church to AIDS in Ireland during the 1980s. Topics include the impact of Catholic teachings on human sexuality, the views of Catholic priest Paul Lavelle on the decriminalization of homosexuality and access to condoms, and the roles of drug injection and men who have sex with men (MSM) in HIV transmission in Ireland.
