Outcome assessment in hip preservation surgical procedures started with hip arthroplasty questionnaires and progressed to validated measures for young patients.Functional outcome assessment includes general health-related quality-of-life instruments, validated hip-specific questionnaires, patient activity level, return to sport, patient satisfaction, and objective measures of lower-extremity function. The best-validated questionnaires in this population include the International Hip Outcome Tool and the Hip Outcome Score. The National Institutes of Health Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System and the computer adaptive test are emerging as powerful outcome tools available to surgeons.
