The article carried out a comprehensive assessment of the legal regulation of the procedure of preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) in the Federal Republic of Germany, taking into account the content of regulatory sources, law enforcement practice and doctrine. The author comes to the conclusion that legislative restrictions aimed at protecting the embryo serve as a factor hindering the use of modern PGD techniques. However the legalization of PGD eliminated legal uncertainty in procedural diagnostic issues, since the legislator has established mandatory requirements for informing and advising on the medical, psychological and social consequences of diagnosis, the conditions for accrediting medical centers eligible for PGD, the rules and procedures for obtaining consent in the Interdisciplinary Ethics Committee. These norms are harmoniously complemented by ethical requirements developed by the professional community. It is substantiated that such a comprehensive mechanism for the regulatory regulation of PGD as a basic model can be successfully perceived in domestic practice.
