Scopoletin, a naturally occurring coumarin derivative, has attracted a lot of interest due to its diverse biological activities and potential therapeutic applications. In recent decades, scopoletin chemistry has got a deal more attention due to its many biological applications. This study presents a comprehensive overview of the chemical synthesis of scopoletin, outlining various synthetic routes and methodologies and its role as a promising candidate for drug development. We explored the biological functions of scopoletin, highlighting its anticancer, antimicrobial, antioxidant, neurodegenerative, anti-myocardial infarction, antidiabetic, insecticidal, antiparasitic, antiviral, anti-inflammatory and anti-atherosclerotic properties. Our findings highlight the therapeutic potential of scopoletin and its suitability for further exploration in pharmacological applications. Furthermore, the potential applications of scopoletin in pharmaceutical development are discussed. This review aims to provide a holistic understanding of scopoletin, paving the way for future research and therapeutic innovations, to compile the literature on scopoletin's biological actions as reported by researchers and to present the latest developments of scopoletin moiety.
