BACKGROUND Mango peel is a major by-product of mango (Mangiferaindica L.) fruit belongs to Anacardiaceae family. It is a tropical or subtropical fruit and hasa potent source of polyphenoliccontents. In traditional medicines, mango peel extract is commonly used, either singly or in combination with other plant extracts against different ailments since ancient times. METHODS Electronic database search for accepted articles in Pubmed, Google Scholar, Researchgate, Google, Scopus and Science Direct were used to review the scientific inputs by searching appropriate keywords. Some information was obtained from books and database on medicinal plants used in variousperiod. RESULTS Numerous reports revealed that mango peel contains a wide spectrum of phytochemicalcompounds like polyphenolics and flavonoids. Amango peel is a potential source of antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, antibacterial and antiproliferative properties. This review suggests thatmango peel could be a potential drug to treat various clinical conditions in future. CONCLUSION In this review, the spectrum of phytochemicals has been summarized for their pharmacological properties and the mechanisms of action, and the possible potential therapeutic applications of mango peel against various diseases discussed.
