Introducing the exposition on the subject of the dossier "Criminal Evidence: epistemological and juridical foundations", this editorial exposes some premises on the judgment of evidences and its epistemological character in the criminal procedure, addressing questions such as the search for the truth, the criteria of valuation, the admissibility of scientific evidence and theories about probability judgments in statistical valuation.
