Bulk polymerization kinetic of 2-phenylethyl acrylate (PEA) and 2phenylethyl methacrylate (PEMA) was determined by non-isothermal differential scanning calorimetry. Kinetic parameters of polymerization for monomers were investigated by DSC in the non-isothermal mode in the presence of 2,2’azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as an initiator. The polymerization was investigated at temperatures range from 40 to 180 oC with varying ramp rate at four different initiator concentrations of initiator. Kissinger and Ozawa methods were applied to determine the activation energy (Ea) and the reaction order of free-radical polymerization. The average heat of polymerization (ΔHp) was also determined. These findings revels that differential scanning calorimetry is a useful method for studying the kinetics of polymerization.
