Abstract As in most countries, the applications of coal in Ukraine do not match its availability: the reserves consist mainly of coal of poor metamorphic development, which is in limited demand. The use of gas coal in coke production is largely associated with new coal-preparation and coking technologies: in particular, molded coke, heat treatment, and stamp charging. Gas coal is preferred for gasification, semicoking, and hydrogenation. It permits the production of gaseous alternatives to derivatives of petroleum and natural gas. The least expensive option is to increase the gas-coal content in coking batch with traditional gravitational charging. In that case, however, special measures must be developed to ensure that the quality of the coke produced meets customer requirements.
